Our Future Brave New World!
As the years pass in our generation, new generations are established. There are new fashion styles that emerge, new technological advances, and new medical discoveries. As our population grows we also face more problems for example we have less and less resources we need as our population grows. The big question to asks our self’s is what will happen if these things continue to happen? What we see on Television, magazines, etc…has much influence in the world we are becoming. The image of beautiful that surrounds our world today is having a perfect body. For our world having a perfect body is being tall skinny and having a perfect pretty face. This has influenced many people to get plastic surgery. People want to look like celebrities and like the people on television so they go through plastic surgery to get the perfect body. Over the last couple of years this has became a very popular trend among our community. Now days plastic surgery is not only used for reconstructive procedures but also for cosmetic Procedures. The five common cosmetic surgery procedures are Breast augmentation, Rhino plastic, liposuction, eyelid surgery, and tummy tuck. These common procedures have increased From 1997-2008 drastically. In 1997, 101,176 people went through the procedure of breast augmentation and in 2008, 355,675 people went though the procedure of breast augmentation. Another medical advance that we have available today is genetic engineering. Human genetic engineering means changing the genes in a living human cell. For example if your child was predicted to be born with a disease, now days you can change that with human genetic engineering. Scientists change the genes in living cells by putting the desired new gene into a little virus like organism which is allowed to get into your cells and which inserts the new gene into the cell along with the old genes. If more and more people go through these medical advances are world will revolve around perfection. If the government keeps allowing people to publish ads with people who have perfect bodies soon everyone is going to want the perfect body and they will go through plastic surgery and genetic modification. The people who are not going to be able to afford going through those procedures will be looked at as ugly and they will be discriminated. Everyone will soon start to look the same and there will be a lack of individuality.
As our population grows in the future we will have limited resources. As of today in our world there is more waste water generated and dispersed today than at any other time in the history of our planet. More than one out of six people lack access to safe drinking water. If this problem continues to increase not very many water will be available to us. Without water we cannot survive. In the future if we continue to waste water and increase our population water is soon going to be worth more money then gold. Only the rich people will be able to afford clean drinking water. The poor people will have unsafe drinking water and more and more diseases will emerge due to the lack of drinking clean water. With all the technological advances, and the problems our society faces it is possible for us to emerge a Brave New World where if you are rich you will be happy because you will be able to afford looking like everyone else and afford the resources we need in order to survive. If we don’t change our living style we will emerge a completely different world then the one we live in today.
